Golf-club specific Lorythmic mapping
The golf club swing weight calculator on this page is the clubmaker version, not a gym-equipment “swing weight” of a bat. Fulcrum at 14 inches. One Lorythmic point equals 1.75 ounce-inches (about 50 gram-inches). D0 sits at 213.5 ounce-inches, the Maltby/Tutelman calibration that matches how analog scales are stamped. A 423 g iron balancing at 29.25 inches is a typical worked example; change either input and the letter moves immediately.
Because golf clubs are long and tip-heavy, almost all of the interesting mass sits well ahead of the fulcrum. That is why two grams at the head is roughly a point, and why two grams under the grip can remove a point. Those rules of thumb fall out of the lever arms; they are not the engine. The engine always uses Σ m(x − 14").
Measured clubs versus component builds
If you have a finished 7-iron, use total weight and balance point and trust the MEASURED badge. If you only have a head, a raw shaft, and a grip, open the Lab and build a MODELLED club. Do not average the two numbers. Shops get into trouble when a customer’s “D2” was a model and the scale says D3.2 after epoxy and a ferrule nobody entered.

Uncertainty is part of golf club work
Analog swingweight scales themselves have quirks: knife-edge wear, off-axis clubs, grips that catch the stop. A digital reconstruction from mass and CG has different errors. Showing D2.1 as if it were a laboratory standard is how calculator sites lose clubmakers. We print the interval that your stated precision implies, then let you tighten the scale or the ruler.
FAQ
Can I use ounces instead of grams?
Enter grams; clubmaking parts are specced in grams. The engine converts internally with 28.349523125 g/oz.
Does grip size change swingweight here?
Only if you change mass or the balance point. A larger grip that also weighs more will drop SW once you re-measure.
Why not certify conforming clubs?
USGA/R&A equipment rules are a different job. This is a workshop calculator, not a conformity lab.
