Lead tape is not a constant

Forum memory says two grams of lead tape equals one swingweight point. That is a decent head-only mnemonic for a mid-iron because the head sits roughly two feet past a 14-inch fulcrum. Move the same two grams to the shaft midspan and you bought less torque. Park it under the grip and you may lower swingweight. A lead tape calculator that ignores location is a slogan generator.

Workshop practice

Clean the head, weigh the tape, note whether you wrapped toward the toe or the hosel — those change feel more than they change first moment about the shaft axis, but the axial station still matters for swingweight. Re-weigh the finished club and take a new balance point. That MEASURED pair is the truth; the tape model is the plan.

Does tungsten tape calculate differently than lead?

Mass is mass for first moment. Density only changes how small the strip is. Enter grams and location.
