Golf Club Length Calculator

Enter the playing length you measured or intend. Woods and irons use a 60° sole reference plane. We do not infer how you stood the club.

The 60-degree convention, visually

For woods and irons, USGA/R&A equipment rules measure length with the club on a horizontal plane and the sole against a 60-degree plane. Length is the distance from the intersection of those planes to the top of the grip. Putters are measured along the shaft axis to the sole and are a different diagram. This page is a measurement guide, not a conformity certificate, and not a detector that guesses whether you used a 60-degree jig or a tape against the wall.

DIY shops still need a number to cut to. Type the length you want as playing length. The Lab will drag the butt to change that target, recompute shaft butt trim, and move the head station. If you later measure the finished club on a proper length board, enter that as MEASURED length on the club card rather than silently overwriting the model.

Length versus swingweight

Shortening a club moves distal mass closer to the 14-inch fulcrum, so swingweight usually drops. That coupling is why the Lab keeps length and SW on the same schematic. A golf club length calculator that only prints inches and never mentions moment is incomplete for builders. Open the Lab after you set length and watch SW on the inspector.

Equipment rules also cap overall length (with limited exceptions). We still will not run a rules engine. If you are building a 48-inch-class driver, read the current Equipment Rules yourself.
